A village woman is not just at the hearth of her home, but usually tilling the fields and earning a livelihood to keep her family fed. She is often working tirelessly for her community, helping others. And, more often than not, she is at the sharp end of a cause, driving forward progress and equality in her own way. Sometimes she is a local leader or an entrepreneur, sometimes she is both.
And it’s no different for women in the cities – though her “fields” might be the call centre, shop, restaurant or office she works in. But her drive for progress can be as passionate.
Yet often when ordinary women do extraordinary things few people find out, because their motivation is change not fame. That is why Village Square is launching “Her Life” to coincide with the relaunch of our platform on October 2, 2021.
We want to showcase the stories of India’s unsung heroes. We want to bring stories of women navigating uncertainty. We want to find out how a woman juggles the demands of motherhood with the demands of livelihood or her passion for her community while keeping her sense of self.
What keeps her going? Who or what are her pillars of strength? What does “resilience” mean to her – on a daily basis? How does she see herself in fast-changing India?
Using a mix of text, audio, video, photos, artwork and animation, women will share stories on Her Life, curated by us at Village Square. We want to champion her successes, while not ignoring her failures and fears.
We want to know about her life – in her own words.
