This new year, try bungee jumping in Bir

Bir, Himachal Pradesh

Head to the mountains to give your new year a jump-start, literally. Try out bungee jumping and sky cycling on your next trip to Bir, Himachal. Launched by a group of boys from the village in 2018, Tiger Team Adventures is a new addition to the handful of bungee sites in India.

Bir village is synonymous with paragliding, but there’s a new adventure sport in the area that could be an even more thrilling experience when you visit the mountains this new year. In a nearby village called Slabak, a group of local boys have got together to start an extreme sports site that offers bungee jumping, sky cycling and the Burma bridge walk.

While bungee jumping may be easy to understand, sky cycling is done on a wired line between two mountains and the Burma bridge walk happens on a ropeway bridge between two sides of the narrow valley. It borrows its name from the famous Burma bridge built by Japanese forces to invade Burma, now Myanmar.

“Since we launched, we have had a very good response from tourists. So far, around 7,000 people have bungee-jumped at this site and more than 10,000 who have tried out sky cycling. It’s getting very popular,” says Pankaj Thakur, the manager of Tiger Team Adventures. As India has only a few bungee jumping sites, the site in Bir is a welcome addition for thrill seekers.

People these days are always looking for new things to try while travelling. And when they come to know of bungee jumps happening in the village, they are ecstatic to try it out.

The site was set up by experts from Thailand who spent around six to eight months on it. “The safety of tourists is ensured and is of utmost importance to us,” adds Pankaj.
