Do you cover rural India? Are you passionate about telling untold stories from India’s often forgotten – but rich and vibrant – villages? Do you write with colour and anecdotes to make your stories come alive? Do you have an unusual story or provocative assertion – backed by data – about how village life is changing (or not!)?

Then why not write for us?

We are renewing our paid opportunities for reporters and content creators covering rural India – especially those writing, taking pictures essays or videos of lifestyle stories. We pay Rs 4000-6000 per story, depending on the writer’s experience and the depth of story coverage. Click HERE to submit your succinct pitch to our edit desk. We aim to respond in one week to ten days.

Field Journal

Field Journal is our (unpaid) blog space for development professionals or interns who have a story to tell, a reflection to share or an idea to spin-out. Whether you’re a researcher, practitioner, field investigator, district officer, manager or intern – we want to hear from you! This strand is typically a more relaxed, first-person blog format. You can write as little as 400 words or as many as 900 words. But be descriptive – set the scene – and then tell us what and, especially, who you encountered, why it/they had an impact on you and what your main take-away was (even if it’s that some experience left you more confused and in search of answers than ever before). And, of course, any good piece is made better with anecdotes – people love reading them – and photos*. Ideally we’d like a photo of you in the field too.

So send in your ideas today!

NB: Village Square doesn’t pay for stories that have been previously published or supported through grants.
